4D investigation of water infiltration in waste dumps using electrical resistivity (Elatsite mine, Bulgaria)

The objective was to investigate how water infiltrated into waste dumps at a mine site. electrical resistivity method of field geophysics applied produce 4D imaging progressive infiltration the dump. goal is test for investigating rain infiltrates unconsolidated materials in dumps. This an important problem when evaluating balance and understanding conditions contamination flowing through materials. trial carried out one two large Elatsite mine, which are composed rocks with various fragment size diverse mineral composition. investigation undertaken by discharging salt solution dump taking geophysical measurements on rectangular electrode grid certain time intervals. consisted 64 electrodes forming 10×5 m cells covering 70×35 area. As result, it possible record dispersion developed space time. In last seven surveys, 40 hours after start trial, established that reached depth approximately m. results could be used predicting interaction between material.
